Last Tuesday Victor Campenaerts from Lotto Soudal Cycling Team set a new Hour Record on the Aguascalientes Bicentenary Velodrome in Mexico. He reached an astonishing 55.089km and therefore beating the 55kmph barrier. This is definitely the highlight of my career. I am really happy, I am also very happy that I was able to break the 55 kilometre per hour barrier. This is definitely the highlight of my career. And it will perhaps remain the highlight,” he said in an interview to Sporza after he finished. He admitted that he may have started out too fast but was able to regain pace towards the end but had to keep himself controlled and follow his pacing strategy. In the end Victor was able to pull off an extraordinary effort putting him in the record books.
